DC-G Downs OHS Girls Soccer

Oskaloosa Indians

The Oskaloosa Girls’ soccer team was in action last night against Dallas Center-Grimes. The girls played tough, but fell to the Phillies 2-0.

The first half would find the Indians a little flat and not a lot of energy, but they were able to keep DCG off the board for most of the first half. With 15 minutes left, DCG was able to put away a loose ball off a corner. The Indians had a couple chances in the final minute of the 1st half, but would go into halftime down 1-0.

“We told the girls that our biggest problem in the 1st half was our energy. We were just going through the motions. We challenged them to come out with high intensity in the 2nd half and leave everything on the field and they did just that.”

The 2nd half would find the Indians with more energy which put DCG on the heels for stretches in the 2nd half. Unfortunately, the girls couldn’t find the back of the net and DCG was able to get a great shot with 6 minutes left in the game for the last score of the game.

“We had a lot of games like this last year where we were in the game, but we struggled in taking advantage of our scoring opportunities. It wasn’t from a lack of trying especially in the 2nd half, but we have to learn how to finish our scoring chances.”

Our back 4 of Brittany, Claire, Brooke, and Mac played a really good game. They prevented a lot of scoring opportunities which was vital with a new goalie.

Maddy Crile deserves a lot of credit as well as she was thrown in to a position she has only played a couple of times, but stepped up to the plate and did extremely well.

“As a team, we need to put together a whole 80 minute game where both the defense and offense are strong!! If we do this, we will have a lot of success as we move towards the end of the season.”

Our next game is at home on Thursday as we will have a double header with the boys’ team against Centerville. Game time is 5:30, so come out for soccer and cheer on both teams!!!

Stats: Kinsey Cook had 5 shots (1 on goal), Kirby Nelson had 2 shots (1 on goal), Leah VanMaanen had 2 shots (1 on goal) and Emily Lunsford had 1 shot.

Maddy Crile had 10 saves in the game.
