Darrell J. Van Haaften, 68, of Coralville, and formerly of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, May 9, 2018 (his 68th birthday), at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. On May 9, 1950, Darrell was born at Oskaloosa, the son of Joseph and Bertha Hoksbergen Van Haaften.
Darrell graduated from the Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1968. He was a lifelong member of Central Reformed Church, Oskaloosa.
Darrell worked for TENCO in Ottumwa for many years, and later for Christian Opportunity Center (COC) in Oskaloosa.
He loved animals, and reading, and mowing yards. Darrell also enjoyed Bible Puzzle Books. He moved to Coralville in 2011 and lived at REM Iowa Development Services.
His family includes his brothers: Ronald Van Haaften of rural Oskaloosa and Marvin (& Barbara) Van Haaften of rural Oskaloosa; a sister, Carolyn (& Elmer) Veldhuizen of Oskaloosa; and 2 nieces, 5 nephews, and 3 cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 14, 2018, at 2 p.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with the Reverends Jon Nelson and Don DeGlopper officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa.
Open visitation will begin at the funeral chapel on Sunday after 11 a.m., and the family will be at the funeral chapel on Monday from 1:30 p.m. until service time.
Memorials may be directed to the REM Iowa Development Services in Coralville, Iowa, and left with the funeral chapel.
