CROP Hunger Walk of Mahaska County
On Sunday, October 16, the annual CROP Hunger Walk of Mahaska County will take place. The public is invited to participate as walker, sponsor, of both.
The registration starts at 1 o’clock at the Fairgrounds in Oskaloosa, and the walk goes to the recreation trail and further to Edmundson Park, where hot dogs and drinks await. Transportation back to the Fairgrounds will be provided for the walkers.
Annual CROP walks are organized throughout the year in many communities across the United States, as a fundraiser for the worldwide relief and hunger fighting activities of Church World Service, minus 25% of the funds raised, which will go to the Mahaska County Ecumenical Cupboard. The walkers are asked to find sponsors. Last year the Mahaska County CROP walk raised over $4,700. The total for the State of Iowa in 2010 was close to one million dollars.
People who want to participate as walkers are invited to call: 673-9389.
