Oskaloosa, Iowa – On March 20th the Mahaska County Conservation Board hosted a workshop for county conservation law enforcement officers. The 13 officers that attended, from 10 different counties, received updates on atv’s, weapon retention and cold water rescue techniques.

The all terrain and off highway vehicle portion was taught by David Downing, Executive Officer for the Iowa DNR. Current regulations as well as those pending in the legislature were discussed.

The weapon retention session was conducted by Mahaska County Deputy Richard Adams with assistance from Keokuk County Deputies Jesse Sanders and Adam Pence. The Oskaloosa Police Department helped out by loaning the safety mats and practice weapons.

The cold water rescue was organized by Jamey Robinson, Mahaska County Emergency Management Coordinator. The instructors were Deputy Chief Cory Benge, Captain Dave Yeager and Firefighter Chris Cale of the Ottumwa Fire Department.

This valuable course was a success due to the quality of the instruction, and the Mahaska County Conservation Board would like to thank everyone involved.
