Council Conveys Lots To Bidders – Johnson Named Officer Of The Year

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa City Council met on Monday evening, and Senior Officer Nathan Johnson was recognized as Officer of the Year for the department.

Officer Gary Kutcher was recognized for 30 years of service to Oskaloosa. Lt. John Plum was recognized for 25 years of service, and Lt. Gary McClun was recognized for 20 years.

Oskaloosa firefighter Adam Haroldson was recognized for 10 years of service to Oskaloosa. Oskaloosa Fire Department Lieutenant Daniel Hoy was also recognized for his 10 years of service.

Nancy Hall of the Oskaloosa Public Library was recognized for her 10 years of service to the city.

Akhilesh Pal with Public Works and Oskaloosa City Manager Michael Schrock were each recognized for their 10 years of service to Oskaloosa.

The Council considered a resolution approving the design development documents for the early childhood education and recreation center project.

A presentation was given to the Council to further update them on work the various committees have done and presented some models of how the interior of the building may look.

An estimated cost for the total construction cost is coming in at $27, 264,446.00, with a total project cost of $31,800,000.00.

Construction is slated to begin on the project in the spring of 2020.

The Council also:

*Heard a report from the Oskaloosa Area Chamber and Development Group.

*Passed a resolution approving an agreement with Fox Engineering Associates, Inc. for engineering services for the Phase 2 Wastewater Facility Plan Short-Term Improvements in an amount not to exceed $114,000.

*Held a public hearing on accepting the bid and conveyance of city-owned property at 1397 9th Ave East to Mike Sereg for $4,000.

*The Council considered a resolution accepting the bid and approving the conveyance of city-owned property at 610 D Ave West to Rhonda Hockey for $4,002.

*The Council approved a resolution accepting the bid and conveyance of city-owned property at 703 A Ave East to Michael Romas for $500.

*Passed a resolution authorizing the execution of a lease agreement for a postage meter system.
