Connie Lemke, 70 of Oskaloosa and formerly of Marshalltown, passed away Tuesday morning, March 13, 2018 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Connie Sue Lemke, the daughter of Walter and Joyce (Broyles) Lemke, was born on November 21, 1947 in Grinnell, Iowa.

Connie was a 1966 graduate of BGM High School in Brooklyn.

On March 8, 1976, Connie was united in marriage to Wade Phipps. To this union four children were born: Robert, Danine, Marcie and Rebecca. They later divorced.

Connie moved to Marshalltown in 1979 and attended Marshalltown Community College. She worked at Marshalltown Manor and Westwood Center Nursing Home. She moved to New Sharon and worked at the New Sharon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center before she worked at the Sigourney Hospital, retiring due to health reasons. She moved to Marshalltown to be closer to her daughters, before moving to Oskaloosa for the last four years.

Connie enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and listening to audio books. She also had a passion for animals.

Connie’s memory will be honored by her daughters: Danine Juarez of Hampton, Marcie Hernandez of Hampton and Rebecca (& Joseph) Schoonover of Oskaloosa; four grandchildren: Jessica Rojas, Collin (& Carrie) Smith, Antonio Hernandez, and Nikolas Bautista; four great grandchildren: Juan Rojas, Alondra Rojas, Victoria Rojas and Anessa Meri Smith; her siblings and spouses: Betty (& Arvene) Bradley of Hedrick, Richard Lemke of Montezuma, Bruce Lemke of Oskaloosa, Ruth (& Leland) Laverman of Sully, Roberta (& Chuck) Playle of New Sharon, Edith Hefley of Montezuma, Roxanne Stewart of Marshalltown, Linda (& Raymon) Ozbun of State Center, Rodney (& Sheryl) Playle of New Sharon and Gary (& Charlotte) Playle of New Sharon; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Joyce Lemke; a step mother, Anna Mae Lemke; a son in infancy, Robert Edward Phipps; a granddaughter, Kelsie Dawn Phipps; and a sister, Lisa Playle.

Memorial services will begin at 11:00 am Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial will be held in the Friends Cemetery in New Sharon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Stephens Animal Shelter in Oskaloosa.
