Oskaloosa–The Statesmen men’s soccer team will look to continue its rise in the most competitive league in the nation as the Heart of America Athletic Conference preseason coaches’ poll was released Tuesday.

WPU, which was 14-5 in 2018 (8-3 Heart), is anticipated to place fifth in the 12-team league. The Heart had numerous teams ranked in the top 25 last fall and eventually finished with the two best in the NAIA as Central Methodist defeated Missouri Valley in the national championship game.

Central Methodist has been picked to defend its title, while Missouri Valley is again in the runner-up position. Baker is third, while Benedictine is also ahead of the navy and gold in fourth.

MidAmerica Nazarene, Graceland, Grand View, Culver-Stockton, Mount Mercy, Evangel, and Clarke round out the poll.

WPU starts 2019 on August 24 with a home matchup versus Avila at 4:30 p.m. The program’s Heart schedule begins on September 18 at home against Culver-Stockton at 7:30 p.m.
