Clarence W. Fleener

Clarence W. Fleener, 99, of Montezuma and formerly of Oskaloosa, died Friday, March 23, 2012, at the Montezuma Nursing Rehab Center in Montezuma. He was born, November 2, 1912, in Melrose, Iowa, the son of Lewis and Etta Mae Kiggins Fleener. On September 11, 1935, he was united in marriage to Ruth Leslie Gott at Oskaloosa, and Ruth died February 11, 2007. Clarence worked at the old Mathew Lumber Company for 23 years, and then the Mahaska County Hospital in Oskaloosa for 40 years until illness forced his total retirement in January, 2007.

His family includes nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary in infancy, and Marie Fenton; and four brothers: Ervin, John, Sam, and Gilbert Fleener.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma. The family will be at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to greet friends and relatives. People wishing to attend the graveside service may gather at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Tuesday by 10:45 a.m. to form a procession to the cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee.
