Central’s Marinkovich wins league honor

PELLA—Central College’s Nick Marinkovich (junior, Clarendon Hills, Ill., Hinsdale Central HS) has been named the Iowa Conference male athlete of the week.

Marinkovich, a 6-4 guard, averaged 22.5 points in a pair of victories last week, also securing 4.5 rebounds with 2.0 steals. He shot 50 percent from the field and 38.1 percent from long range as the Dutch improved to 4-0 overall. Central outlasted Cornell College 74-71 Tuesday and tripped Eureka College (Ill.) Saturday, 94-82.

Marinkovich is averaging a league-high 19.8 points a game with 4.3 rebounds. He’s shooting 47.2 percent from the floor and a team-high 37.8 percent behind the arc. It’s the first time he has received player of the week recognition.

The Dutch are back in action Wednesday, hosting William Penn University in a 7:30 p.m. contest at P.H. Kuyper Gymnasium.
