Central women’s soccer team shut out by Dubuque

DUBUQUE- Facing a stout defense the Central College women’s soccer team was shut out against the University of Dubuque losing 1-0.

The Dutch (7-5, 0-2 American Rivers) were held to only one corner kick in the match and were only able to fire five shots on goal. Grace Coates (senior, Marion) led the team in that category with two shots on target.

“Today was a classic battle with Dubuque” said coach Mike Kobylinski. “The reality is we did enough to win the game but lacked some clinical moments which would have tipped the scale to us.”

The Spartans (6-2-3, 1-1 A-R-C) took advantage of a lapse on defense in the 28th minute when they found the back of the net.

Goalkeeper Zoey Sizemore (sophomore, Omaha, Neb., Mercy HS) was strong in goal grabbing five saves.

“We will regroup and be ready for Buena Vista,” Kobylinski said. “We need to have the sole focus of picking up points in this conference race and build momentum again. We have been in every match we have lost by one goal, and we are hopeful the tide will turn the other way soon. I am confident that it will.”

Central looks to rebound when it travels to Storm Lake and take on Buena Vista University Wednesday at 5 p.m.
