Central women’s soccer team grabs win behind freshman goalkeeper

PELLA- Freshman goalkeeper Josie Farmer (freshman, Nevada) snagged five saves and recorded a clean sheet in her first collegiate appearance. This is the third shutout in the teams’ first six games of the season.

The Central College women’s soccer team (4-2) defeated Hamline University (Minn.) (3-3) 3-0 to get back in the win column.

“It was fantastic,” said coach Mike Kobylinski. “She had a couple high balls she got to as well as a low ball in the first half which was her first big moment. She was a state champion in high school, so she is used to big moments, and she filled that today.”

The Dutch first found the back of the net in the 13th minute when the team took advantage of a corner and forward Alli Seegers (sophomore, Waverly, Waverly-Shell Rock) found midfielder Amber Santana (senior, Indio, Calif., Shadow Hills) who scored her second goal of the season.

In the second half the squad added to their lead when Grace Coates (senior, Marion) took the ball from midfield to the net and scored her fourth goal of the season. The Dutch were not done scoring when Coates found Piper Eighmy (sophomore, Birmingham, Ala., Briarwood Christian) who scored her first career goal.

“I thought we played as a unit,” Kobylinski said. “We had a game plan that came through to a tee and I do not think we could have played this opponent much better than we did. I could not be happier.”

The team plays next when it travels to Fulton Missouri to take on Westminster (Mo.) at 5 p.m.
