Central women’s soccer team extends winning streak to four games
PELLA- Despite playing back-to-back days, the Central College women’s soccer team shut out their fifth opponent this season.
The Dutch (7-2) defeated Illinois College, 3-0 Sunday.
Central outshot the Lady Blues (6-2-1)17-8, with seven shots on goal. The opponents only had two shots on goal.
“Getting a shutout with three separate goal scorers shows the quality and the depth (on our team),” said coach Mike Kobylinski.
The squad opened the scoring in the 12th minute when defender Nicole Sinclair (junior, Arvada, Colo., Jefferson Academy) scored her first goal of the season. Abby Frey (5th-year, Mesa, Ariz., Desert Ridge HS) recorded the assist, she now moves into the top five in career assists with 16.
Rachel Mendlik (freshman, Spring Grove, Ill., Richmond-Burton) continued the scoring for the Dutch when she scored her first career goal in the 36th minute off an assist from Josie Newton (sophomore, Pleasant Hill, Southeast Polk HS).
Midfielder Kylie Bloomstrom (freshman, Forest Lake, Minn., Forest Lake Area HS) also scored her first career goal when she scored in the 58th minute.
Zoey Sizemore (sophomore, Omaha, Neb., Mercy) collected two saves and her third clean sheet on the season
“It’s not easy to play back-to-back games,” Kobylinski said. “I think we are fitter as a group and we have fantastic leadership, all the way through each class. Everybody is working for each other and when you have that, magic happens.”
The Dutch play their final non conference game when they go to play the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Wednesday at 5 p.m.
