Central women’s golf team opens at Buena Vista

STORM LAKE — Despite a slow start on the front nine, the Central women’s golf squad tallied a 342 for the first round of play at the Buena Vista Fall Invitational.

Team standings were not available.

It was a promising showing for Taylor Hill (sophomore, Treynor), who shot Central’s best at 76.

“Taylor was our number two in the spring, and we were hoping she would be our number one,” coach Tim Wilkinson said. “She rose to the occasion. We saw a lot of improvement.”

Following Hill, Kelsey Van Tasell (sophomore, Pella) tied her career-best, shooting 85, Ashley Smith (senior, Johnsburg) carded an 89, Chelsey Shuey (frehman, Ames) had 92 and Emily Fisher (freshman, Wapello) had 99.

“I felt like as a team we played well,” Wilkinson said. “With so many freshmen, there are bound to be nerves, and it showed. We were much better on the back nine as we got settled in which is very encouraging going into tomorrow.”

Play concludes with Saturday’s second round starting at 11 a.m.
