Central track and field program nets nine on all-region teams
PELLA — A total of nine Central College track and field athletes were named USTFCCCA all-Central Region honorees for the 2016-17 NCAA Division III Indoor season.
To be named All-Region, an athlete must either be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region or be part of a top-3 relay team.
On the men’s team, Central had eight athletes honored across seven events. Mark Fairley (junior, Dubuque) was all-region in the 3000 meters and 5000 meters. He was joined by Blake Morgan (junior, Story City/Roland-Story HS), Kyle Pape (sophomore, Dubuque/Wahlert Catholic HS) and Jon Specht (junior, Dubuque/Hempstead HS) on a top-three Distance Medley Relay team. Isaac Steffensmeier (senior, Fort Madison) secured all-region honors in the 3,000 meters. Justin Wimbish (junior, Glendale, Ariz./Apollo HS) and Logan Mulford (junior, Mount Pleasant) were cited in the long jump and high jump, respectively. Freshman Will Daniels (Geneseo, Ill.) was recognized for his efforts in the high jump and heptathlon.
Senior Lorell Stuht (Loveland, Colo.) is the only selection for the Dutch women, receiving the honor in the weight throw.
Mulford and Stuht will represent Central at this weekend’s NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships in Naperville, Illinois. Mulford is slated to compete in the men’s high jump Saturday while Stuht will participate in the women’s weight throw on Friday.
