Central drops inaugural volleyball matchup against Waldorf
FOREST CITY — Tuesday night proved to be another night that one bounce could change the outcome of a match for the Central College volleyball team.
For the fourth time this season Central (0-5 overall) fell in the fifth set. Tuesday’s 25-20, 25-19, 20-25, 17-25, 15-13 loss came against Waldorf University, a NAIA program.
Coach Jeanne Czipri’s squad is close to breaking through.
“Tonight was a good battle,” said Czipri. “We were down two sets and bounced back strong. We battled in the fifth set and looked much tougher than we did in the fifth set all weekend.”
Senior outside hitter Kylie Gerstein (Iowa Falls, Iowa Falls-Alden HS) led the Dutch with 10 kills. Setter Chapel Carter (Colorado Springs, Colo., Coronado HS) had 19 assists and setter Regan Nelson (Pella) had 16.
Despite the winless start, Czipri is encouraged by what she’s seen so far this season.
“We have a lot of work to do still going into this weekend and our first Iowa Conference match next weekend, but I’m excited to see us improving each match,” she said.
The Dutch travel to Milwaukee, Wis. Friday for the Milwaukee School of Engineering Tournament. Central opens play against Alverno College (Wis.) at 6 p.m. and finishes the night with tournament host M.S.O.E. at 8 p.m.
