Central competes at William Woods men’s golf invite
FULTON, Mo. — After playing 36-holes Tuesday because of an unplayable course Monday, the Central College men’s golf team finished 10th out of 14 teams at the William Woods Spring Invitational.
Tourney host William Woods (Mo.) shot 13-under par, 281-282–563, to win the event with Mount Mercy University finishing second with 289-285–574 on the par-72, 6,900-yard Tanglewood Golf Club. The Dutch fired 305-290—595.
Central was led by freshman Nick Walker (Naperville, Neuqua Valley HS) tied for 12th with 73-71—144.
“Extremely pleased with Nick and the round he played today,” said coach Jon Olson. “He is a hard worker and today was a huge step for him. He has understood the adjustment period from high school to college and now knows he belongs.”
Senior Kacie Broeg (Burlington, Notre Dame HS) finished a stroke behind Walker with 74-71—145, tying for 15th, senior Brock Morris (Manchester, West Delaware HS) placed in a tie for 46th with 77-76—153, sophomore Nash Bucher (Huxley, Ballard HS) finished tied for 50th with 83-72—155 and freshman Kobe Rhodes (Glenwood) tied for 61st with 81-80—161.
Conditions of the golf course were not great after Monday’s round was postponed due to rain.
Central continues play Sunday at the Duhawk Invitational at Thunder Hills Country Club at Peosta. The Dutch continue to prepare for the Iowa Conference tourney, which is held April 28-29 at Finkbine Golf Course at Iowa City and May 5-6 at Indianola Country Club at Indianola.
