PELLA — The Central College Symphonic Wind Ensemble embarks on its annual tour with two performances in central Iowa Jan. 4-5. The ensemble will then host nine performances, titled “Salute to American Composers,” in New Orleans and the surrounding area. See full schedule below.

Under the direction of Mitchell Lutch, assistant professor of music and director of bands, the Symphonic Wind Ensemble will perform compositions by George Gershwin, Leonard Bernstein, Warren Barker and Frank Ticheli. Assistant professor of music Paul Kovacovic will join the ensemble as a special guest.

The tour kick-off performance will be held Jan. 4 in Des Moines. Alumni, friends, guests and music lovers are invited to attend. Ensemble members will host a coffee and dessert reception following the performance.

The Symphonic Wind Ensemble is an auditioned 35-piece instrumental group and one of the premier ensembles at Central. It hosts two major concerts each semester and tours annually, with an international tour every fourth year.

All performances are free and open to the public. An RSVP by Dec. 30 is requested for the post-concert reception in Des Moines by emailing alumni@central.edu or calling 800-447-0287. For more information, contact Debbie Abel at 641-628-5236.
