Central climbs to No. 15 in wrestling poll
PELLA—Central College moved up 14 spots to No. 15 in the National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III poll.
The Dutch (1-1) outscored St. Olaf College (Minn.) 27-11 on Nov. 7 before battling Coe College in a 16-15 defeat last Wednesday. St. Olaf dropped to No. 29 in the rankings while Coe slipped one notch to No. 4
Iowa Conference rival Wartburg College remains at No. 1. Luther College is No. 16 followed by the University of Dubuque at No. 17. Loras College is rated No. 26.
Meanwhile, three Dutch wrestlers cracked the individual rankings. Daniel Page (sophomore, Yelm, Wash., Tumwater HS) is No. 8 at 125 pounds. He’s 7-1 and knocked off Coe all-American Jimmy Gotto by a 4-2 decision. Joseph Atwell (senior, Jamaica, Panorama HS) is No. 7 at 157 pounds with a 1-0 record and Theron Stewart (senior, Marshalltown) is No. 8 at 197 with a 5-1 mark.
Central returns to action Dec. 1 at the Milwaukee School of Engineering (Wis.) Invitational.
