Carter Shares Racing Experiences With Peers

Cayden Carter and his family made a stop by OMS with his B-Mod on Friday for 7th period

Oskaloosa, Iowa – Racing has been in the family blood for generations, and his love for the sport is no different than the rest of his families. At 16 years of age, Cayden Carter has been piling up trophies all season long.

Cayden has won the Southern Iowa Speedway B-Mod Championship for 2011 as well as the Iron Man series this year. On top of those championships, Carter has brought home 29 wins on the year, but still has some racing left in the season.

Carter started racing when he was 3 years old with racing go-carts. They had a special seat and pedals made for him, at that time, in order for him to drive, “and he’s raced ever since”, says Cayden’s grandfather, Jimmy Carter. Cayden has been racing the B-Mod class of cars since he was 12. He not only races at the local track here in Oskaloosa, but many other tracks in Iowa and also in Missouri, Nebraska, and Minnesota.

“My grandpas always had modifieds.” Cayden said of his progression into the different types of racing. Cayden and his family are looking towards a move up to A-Mods next year from the B-Mod class he currently runs in.

Carters made a stop by Oskaloosa Middle School on Friday afternoon to share their love of racing with Ms. McCauley’s class in the afternoon. There, they took questions from students about racing, explained the sport, and let the kids that were interested sit in the car. Meanwhile Jimmy would fire the engine for the student so that, for a moment in time, they too could feel like a race car driver.

Towards the end of their demonstration, the Carters drew one lucky winner for a t-shirt and photo with Cayden. Lydia Denniston was the winner from Ms. Molly McCauley’s room.
