Carter Leads Statesmen to Sweep of Wildcats

Canton, Mo.–The Statesmen headed south to take on the Wildcats of Culver-Stockton on Friday night in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.

WPU (17-10, 5-7 Heart) swept Culver-Stockton (8-15, 1-11 Heart) in straight sets (25-22, 25-17, 25-11) to take the match in impressive fashion.

William Penn dominated the offensive side of the game, outhitting the Wildcats by a wide margin of .265-.60. The third set was the navy and gold’s strongest of the night hitting at a .355 clip to end the match.

Jordan Carter (Sr., Sigourney, Iowa, Elementary Education) paced the team with 11 kills while Corrin Lepper (Fr., Jefferson, Mo., Exercise Science) finished just behind her with 9 kills. Danielle Pendzinski (Jr., Winnebago, Ill., Elementary Education) also chipped in with 6 kills and hitting at a team high .545 clip.

The setting duo of Haley Smith (Sr., Adrian, Mich., Elementary Education) and Elena Lucero (Fr., Yuba City, Calif., Political Science) helped guide the Statesmen to victory producing a total of 36 assists with Smith finishing with 19 and Lucero ending the night with 17.

On the defensive side, two players finished in double-digits led by Ashley Miller (Sr., Kalona, Iowa, Exercise Science) who posted a game high 28 digs. Haley Vampran (Sr., Fort Worth, Texas, Exercise Science) contributed in a big way with 12 digs of her own.

Next up: The Statesmen will return home to take on Governors State tomorrow at 6 p.m. in Penn Gymnasium.
