Carla Stenoish, 85, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was born September 22, 1930, in Oskaloosa, the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Blake Rust.
Carla graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1948. She earned her R.N. from the Mercy College of Health Sciences in Des Moines. In the mid 1950’s she was united in marriage to Theodore Stenoish, Theodore died in 1971.
Carla worked for many years as an R.N., first at the hospital in Oskaloosa and later the hospital in Des Moines. The family then moved to California where Carla continued to work as a nurse in various hospitals. In the mid 1970’s, the family moved back to Oskaloosa and Carla went back to work at the hospital in Oskaloosa. Last, she worked at New Sharon Care Center in New Sharon, retiring from there in 1995.
In retirement, Carla enjoyed watching her grandchildren. She also enjoyed reading, crocheting rugs, needle pointe, and embroidery. She was a member of the Catholic Church.
Carla was a lifelong caregiver to others, not only in her career as a nurse but she also cared for many family members throughout her life. She will be remembered as a kind spirit that always put the needs of others first.
Her family includes her two children: Carol (& David) Hanselman of University Park, and Edward Stenoish of Oskaloosa; four grandchildren: James Petersma, Kyle Hanselman, Frederik Hanselman, and Ashlar Hanselman; a sister, Margaret (& Larry) Mateer of Oskaloosa; two brothers: Edward Rust of Centerville and George (& Rella) Rust of Oskaloosa; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Carla was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Joseph Stenoish.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 26, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
 Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
 Visitation will begin Friday after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Friday evening to greet friends and relatives.
