Jason Ebelsheiser found guilty on multiple charges

Ebelsheiser escorted from courthouse, Oskaloosa Iowa

Jason Ebelsheiser was found guilty on several counts this evening. A Mahaska County Jury handed down the decision around 6:50 pm this evening. Ebelsheiser was foundĀ  guilty of one count of sex abuse in the 3rd degree. Sex abuse in the 3rd degree is a forcible felony. Ebelsheiser was also two counts of assault with intent to commit sex abuse and one count of tampering with records. Two counts were declared mistrials because the jury was not able to come to a verdict. In addition, Ebelsheiser was found not guilty of two charges of Sex Abuse in the 3rd degree.

After the verdicts had been read, the question of bail was discussed. Judge Wilson stated that since the first count Ebelsheiser was convicted of was a forcible felony, bail would be revoked and Ebelsheiser would go into custody immediately after court proceedings were over. During and after the reading of the verdicts, Ebelsheiser acted with great respect towards law enforcement. The reading of the verdicts also appeared to take its toll on the family of both Ebelsheiser and the victims with various members of the audience in tears as the verdicts were read. It was a highly emotional time as family consoled each other, and lingered around the courthouse for some time after the verdict looking for strength and understanding from friends and family. As Jason was taken into custody and lead away to the Mahaska County Jail, family was observed shouting “I love you Jason!”

Judge Wilson set sentencing for January 6th, 2011 at 1:15 pm.
