Oskaloosa. Beulah I. “Grandma Boo” Welch, 86, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at her home in Oskaloosa. On February 3, 1926, she was born near Barnes City, the daughter of Wilbert and Marie Parsons Green. On November 2, 1946, she was married to Fred Wells at Nashua, Iowa, and later divorced. She worked as a Certified Nurse’s Aide at the old Tower Park Nursing Home in Oskaloosa for many years. On February 27, 1987, Beulah was united in marriage to Jack Welch at Oskaloosa. She enjoyed collecting antiques and watching westerns on television. “Grandma Boo” delighted in spending time with her family.
Her family includes her husband, Jack Welch of Oskaloosa; two daughters and their husbands: Peggy and Butch Hewitt of Des Moines and Nancy and Steve Vance of Ankeny; a stepson and his wife: Mark and Deb Welch of Pleasantville; two stepdaughters: Jill Gascon of Norwalk and Shelly (& Mac) Vasquez of Denver, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Kenneth and Beverly Green of New Sharon; and a sister, Cris Utterback of Sigourney.
Besides her parents, Beulah was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brandy Taylor; a great granddaughter, Nikkole Taylor; three brothers: Roy, John, and Wilbur Green; and two sisters: Lucille Peeples and Marjorie Lundy.
Respecting her wishes, she has been cremated. A Graveside Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 14, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the Old White Cemetery in Oskaloosa with the Reverend Jane Larson officiating. No visitation is planned. Family and friends may gather at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Saturday by 12:40 p.m. to form a procession to the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Service arrangements are by the Bates Funeral Chapel, Oskaloosa.
