Betty Piersel, 81, of Oskaloosa, died Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa. She was born Tuesday, December 22, 1936, in Mahaska County, the daughter of Henry and Mae McCammet Ross.

Betty graduated from New Sharon High School with the Class of 1954.

Following school, Betty worked various places including May’s Drug Store in Oskaloosa, Continental Overall Factory, the hospital, William Penn University, Hy-Vee in Pella and the Country Club in Oskaloosa. She later delivered the Oskaloosa Herald and Shopper.

On December 1, 1957, Betty was united in marriage to (Floyd) Laverne Piersel in New Sharon. Betty worked alongside Floyd in the fields for many years until they moved to Oskaloosa in 1973.

Betty attended New Sharon United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Floyd Piersel of Oskaloosa; three sons: Wade (& Karen) Piersel of Oskloosa, Scott Piersel of Oskaloosa and Keith Piersel of Mt. Pleasant; a daughter, Lynn Piersel of Hanford, California; seven grandchildren; a step granddaughter; 11 great grandchildren; and two sisters: Doris Van Helton of Oskaloosa and Darlene (& Gene) Plate of Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter-in-law, Stephanie Piersel; an infant grandchild; an infant great grandson, Desmond Atreyu Downey-Steele; and two brothers, Robert and William Ross.

As was her wish, Betty’s body has been cremated.
