Betty Jean Hannan, age 73, of Albia, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at Monroe Care Center in Albia. Betty was born on February 25, 1945 to Pete and Esther (Grubb) Woods.

Betty attended high school in Albia and later obtained her GED from Indian Hills Community College.

Betty worked as a clothing folder and presser for Smith Laundry and then worked as a janitor at Monroe Plastics. She then worked as a machine operator at Hawkeye Molding for 8 years and finished her career years in janitorial work for Vermeer and then Wal-Mart.

Betty enjoyed being outdoors doing things such as fishing and mowing yards and cemeteries. She enjoyed playing card games, especially Solitaire, Rummy, and Pinochle. She loved babies and spending time with her grandchildren. A glass of Diet Pepsi was never far from her hand.

Betty is survived by her children: Kenny (& Deb) Hannan, Kathy Hannan, and Andy (& Teresa) Hannan; 8 grandchildren: Robert, Stefani (& Mitch), Kelli, Shayne, Katelynn, Morgan, Daisy, and Jazmine; and 6 siblings: Cora Simmos, Charles Woods, Judy (& Don) Westphal, Floyd (& Donita) Woods, Mary Hannan, and Peggy Woods. Betty is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Esther; twin children in infancy; and a brother, James Woods.

Visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. until the time of service on Friday, May 11, 2018, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Betty’s family present throughout to greet family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, May 11, 2018, at the Tharp Funeral Home in Albia with Pastor Lynda Carlson officiating.
A private family burial will be held at Oak View Cemetery in Albia at a later date.
A memorial has been established to the family.
