Beaver, Lekas Tabbed as January Players of the Month

Oskaloosa–The William Penn University Athletics Booster Club has announced the recipients of the January Player of the Month laurels.

Junior men’s track and field athlete D’Artagnon Beaver (Rockford, Ill., Human Services) earned the Male award, while sophomore women’s wrestler Ashley Lekas (Plano, Texas, Business Management) claimed the Female honor. The laurel is the first for both individuals.

Every time Beaver stepped onto the track he broke a school record, doing so in the one-mile run (4:21.72), the 3,000-meter run (8:38.36), and as a member of the distance medley relay team (10:22.70).

The junior also qualified for nationals in both the 3,000 and the DMR by hitting the provisional standard in each.

Lekas dominated her competition, going 6-0 with five technical falls. The 170-pounder’s month was highlighted by knocking off the then-#1 wrestler in the nation in a convincing 10-0 technical fall.
