Oskaloosa, Iowa- Congresswoman and Presidential Candidate Michele Bachmann made a campaign stop in Oskaloosa Saturday afternoon. The 2:30 whistle stop was opened up in prayer by Rev. Bill Tvedt of Jubilee Family Church of Oskaloosa, with introductions made by Iowa Senator Brad Zaun.

Bachmann started off by talking about the direction of the county and making a “course correction for 2012”.

Bachmann used Iowa’s constitutional statue that says that the state can only spend 99% of what it takes in, while the rest will be sent to a “rainy day fund”, as an idea that should be taken to Washington DC and utilized there. Bachmann said that Congress spent an extra 1.5 trillion just this year. “That would be one thing if that was just this year, but they have been doing it year, after year, after year”.

“Have you heard about the supercommittee”, Bachmann said. “12 people, they’re suppose to be cutting out a trillion and a half dollars. Well that’s over a 10 year period. We should cut that out every single year, because we don’t have it”. Bachmann has been highly vocal in the opposition to the raising of the debt ceiling in the past, and has stumped on fiscal conservatism during her campaign for the White House.

Congresswoman Bachmann spoke about the devaluation of the dollar over the past few years, and she laid that responsibility at the feet of the government. “The government has something that you and I don’t have. They have a big printing press in the basement, and they fire it up, and they print money and they throw all that money out into the economy. That’s called inflation”. Bachmann said the value of our money goes down, “we lose”.

Bachmann turned towards the southern boarder and the issue of immigration. “Every year illegal immigration is costing America one hundred thirteen billion dollars. As a matter of fact, it costs 82 billion dollars for the state and local governments.” Bachmann went on to say that the cost to an American household is about $1000.00 a year. “That’s because of all the benefits we’re paying out to illegal aliens”.

Bachmann says she is the first candidate to sign a pledge, “I will build a fence the first year that I am in office as President of the United States to deal with the issue of illegal immigration”, going on to say that she will end “taxpayer subsidized benefits” and make English the official language of the Federal Government.

In a shot at the Obama Administration over the Fast and Furious scandal that is rocking the Justice Department, “We won’t be giving guns to drug smugglers in Mexico so they can use those guns to kill our border security officers”. She also stated that Attorney General Eric Holder has directed the FBI, “he made a decision that those terror training manuals will not tolerate any FBI Agent linking terror to jihad or radical fundamentalists um of Islam. I’m not making this up”. Bachmann made the remarks on what she said is recent directives from the Justice Department.

Bachmann who sits on the House Intelligence Committee said, “we have a real problem in this country with terror, and we’ve had an international assassination attempt just a couple of weeks ago in Washington DC. The nation of Iran wanted to have an assassination attempt at a restaurant. Imagine a place like this [Smokey Row], they wanted to assassinate the Saudi Arabian Ambassador in Washington in a restaurant and it didn’t bother them that they were going to blow up 200 innocent Americans. You see these people are serious. We’ve also got to be serious”. She said that this is where the president is making a mistake by having reference to Islam or jihad removed from reports as well.

Turning her focus towards the family and abortion, “This has been the most radical pro-abortion president that we have ever had”, Bachmann said about President Obama. “I feel very strongly that life needs to be protected, and protected from conception to natural death”.

Obama was the main focus of Bachmanns attention during her visit to Oskaloosa. “When it comes to Obamacare, that is socialized medicine”, she said to the group. Stating that she believes it will change our nation forever, “If we don’t get rid of Obamacare in 2012, we will never get rid of socialized medicine. 2012 is it”, Bachmann emphasized.

“Because President Obama wrote himself a check for one hundred five billion, four hundred sixty four million. He’s cashing that check to implement Obamacare in the federal government, in every state government and also in the private health care industry, and we only have this one shot to get rid of it”, emphasized Bachmann.

Bachmann who is in the middle of an Iowa swing to re-energize her base here, was first in Oskaloosa back in July for a fundraiser for the Mahaska County Republicans.

US Congressman Ron Paul is scheduled to be in Oskaloosa on Tuesday at noon at Smokey Row for campaign stop as well.
