Artie M. Fick, 97, passed away Sunday, April 3, 2016 at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was born April 1, 1919 at Rose Hill, Iowa, the daughter of Arie and Mary Veerman Van Zee.

Artie graduated from Montezuma High School and then from Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls. Artie taught country school and public school.

Artie was united in marriage to Everett VanKooten on August 9, 1949. She later was united in marriage to Harold Fick on May 26, 1961. The couple farmed and lived in the Callender area all their married lives.

Artie was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church, Callender, where she taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School for 35 years.

Artie is survived by her husband Harold; sons: Bruce (& Judy) VanKooten of Omaha, Brian (& Karen) VanKooten of Ankeny, and Brad VanKooten of Callender; sister, Mildred Van Zee of Oskaloosa; 3 step-grandchildren; and 7 step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Jeannie; 3 sisters; and 6 brothers.

Visitation and viewing will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie.
An additional visitation will be 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, at the Bates Funeral Home in Oskaloosa.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at the Bates Funeral Chapel, Oskaloosa, with Pastor Jon Rollefson officiating.
Burial will be at Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa.
Memorials may be made to the Fick Family.
