Art exhibit to be held at Central College Jan. 19-Feb. 4

PELLA — Central College will hold “Trauma, Trials, and Triumph … As Evident Through Artistic Expression” art exhibit starting Wednesday, Jan. 19, running through Friday, Feb. 4, at the Mills Gallery in the Lubbers Center for Visual Arts.

The collection of artwork by youth who have experienced the Iowa Juvenile Home, a training school for delinquent girls and a residential placement for adolescents deemed Children in Need of Assistance due to neglect or abuse, shows their personal progression. The exhibit portrays the complications of succumbing to rage, aggression, loneliness, fear, helplessness and despair. By identifying the sources of anger in their imagery, their art is a way towards resolution and hope.

Gallery hours are Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The exhibit is free and open to the public.
