A Great Stocking To Stuff

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The need to feed the hungry continues to grow year after year, and a few Oskaloosa residents have found unique ways of helping to accomplish that.

At Julies Hometown Cafe, patrons have been donating $1.00 or more for a chance to win one of three $25.00 gift certificates from the cafe. Those donors get the opportunity to place their name on a stocking, making the restaurant a very festive place with Christmas atmosphere.

Julie Wells said that, as of Monday, $400.00 had been raised in the stocking stuffer fund raiser for the Oskaloosa Ecumenical Cupboard. They hope to continue the fundraiser through the end of the month.

“People have responded to it real well,” says Wells of the patrons who have donated. “The generosity, it’s pretty amazing.”

Hosting a fund raiser like this is something Wells has wanted to do for some time, “I want to do something, but I hate to be one to push things on people.” Wells didn’t want to make her patrons feel uncomfortable if they didn’t give.

A couple of volunteers at the Ecumenical Cupboard are regulars at the cafe, and upon hearing from them about the increased need the charity is facing, Wells wanted to help the local charity. “The money goes straight to them and goes to families in our community.”
