WPU Finishes High at Baker Challenge
by Wade SteinlageFairview Heights, Ill.–The Statesmen women’s bowling team showed it will be a major force come postseason time as it recorded a top-three finish at the McKendree Baker Challenge Saturday and Sunday.
WPU placed third out of 20 teams with 7,511 pins in 40 Baker games, while Lindenwood (Mo.) led qualifying with 7,901 pins.
Unfortunately, the navy and gold were knocked out of bracket competition in the quarterfinals, falling to #6 Webber International (Fla.) 2-0. Lindenwood held its seeding to take the bracket title as well.
Varsity team members included Nicole Craft (Jr., Wakefield, Neb., Physical Education), Abbey Fangman (So., Waterloo, Iowa, Elementary Education), Kaylee Gerken (Sr., Dubuque, Iowa, Elementary Education), Kayla Gifford (Jr., Camanche, Iowa, Biology), Jade Klinefelter (Cedar Rapids, Iowa), Nicole Mottier (So., Madison, Wis., Computer Science), Amber Ovel (Sr., Waterloo, Iowa, Psychology), and Bailey Palmer (Jr., Ottumwa, Iowa, Biology).
Next Up: William Penn is off two weeks before traveling to Indianapolis, Ind. on February 16-17 to compete in the Hoosier Classic.
