Girls Varsity Continues To Show Improvement
Grinnell, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Indians Girls Varsity Team made the trip to Grinnell on Friday evening to take on the Tigers in Little Hawkeye Conference action.
The Tigers are rated #4 in the state, just a year after making it to the championship game.
Last year the match-up was a controversial one, when the Tigers scored 100 more points on the Indians.
Oskaloosa Head Coach Jacie White spoke with Oskaloosa News’s Jamie Brockman about the 78-30 loss the Indians had against the Tigers.
“We really didn’t come out and execute our game plan,” said White of the early hole the Indians were in. “There were glimpses of it.”
The Indians found themselves down 47-13 at halftime, and White says that during the break, she talked to the team about their attitude and their effort. “We had some girls step up and play hard, but it’s tough to play basketball when there aren’t 5 people stepping up and playing hard and giving 110%.”
“I did like Ashley Drost, Jillian Jennings. Those girls come in and they’re just workhorses, and they do whatever you ask of them,” added White.
The Indians fell 79-30 to the Tigers.
Marleigh Denberger (Sr) and Ashley Drost (Sr) lead the scoring for the Indians with 10 each. Amanda Fay (So) added 6 more points for the Indians.
On the boards, Drost had 8 total rebounds while Denberger added 6 total rebounds.
The Indians will take on Knoxville on Saturday at home.
Saturday update. The Indians fell to the Knoxville Panthers at home 56-32.
