Council Works Through A Short Agenda
Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa City Council met in regular session on Monday evening.
The council approved the consent agenda which included item G, which was the scheduling of a public hearing on the property located at 1217 South Market in Oskaloosa, to rezone it from an R-1 or Residential to CC (Community Commercial) to allow for retail.
The lot had been considered for rezoning to facilitate the construction of a new Dollar General store.
A public hearing on the rezoning of the property has been set for December 3, 2018, at the regular Oskaloosa City Council Meeting.
Fitzpatrick Financial Services has submitted a site plan for a new 1080 square foot office building to be located at 210 South 2nd Street in Oskaloosa.
The Council approved the site plan unanimously.
The Council passed a resolution authorizing a professional services agreement with HR Green Inc. to complete the comprehensive Geographic Information Systems (GIS) database for the City’s stormwater systems. The cost is not to exceed $75,000.
The database will document 1,766 structures, which 227 are storm sewer manholes, 1,053 storm sewer inlets, and 65 storm sewer outlets.
It’s estimated that 50% of the storm sewer system still needs to be identified. An additional 1,650 storm sewer structures still need to be collected in order to complete the database.
The Council approved the purchase of a new 7,000 gallon 2018 Total Tank Emulsion Storage System for a total cost of $50,000.00.
The tank is part of the chip-sealing process used by Oskaloosa Public Works, which completes up to 4 miles of chip-sealing every year. In the process, Oskaloosa Public Works uses up to 25,000 gallons of liquid asphalt per year.
The entire project is budgeted to cost $100,000 with the installation.
The final work for Council was to pass the second reading amending Oskaloosa Municipal Code restricting on-street parking on D Street from A Avenue West to 6th Avenue West.
A third reading of the ordinance was waived, and the parking restrictions are now in place.
The next scheduled city council meeting is December 3rd at 6 p.m.
