There was many activities for kids at the Mahaska County YMCA Fall Family Night Out.

Oskaloosa, Iowa – The doors to the Mahaska County YMCA had many scary creatures enter this past week.

The YMCA hosted the Halloween Fall Family Night Out. It featured many different games for kids to play, pumpkin carving, pumpkin drawing, a bounce house, and of course candy.

There was also a costume competition, which included funniest costume, scariest costume, and best overall dressed.

Nick Coffey, Program Director for the Mahaska County YMCA said the effort is to help get as many kids as they could in the door. The event has its roots in events the YMCA hosted last year, and the desire to do something for the kids at various holidays throughout the year.

Helping to introduce people to the YMCA and the many programs and services offered is also a big part of events like the Halloween Fun Night.

Coffey said there have been many changes made at the YMCA that have been for the better. Some of those changes have been additional programs for both kids and adults.

Parents were then able to explore memberships for the family and check out upcoming events for kids and adults, such as fitness classes. “Everything is taken to a new level on adding things, and I think we got the right people here.”

“We try to provide what no other gym is doing. We’re not trying to compete with anybody, but just trying to offer something that nobody else is. We’re trying to have as many things for the kids as possible,” added Coffey. “We try to make this a kid-friendly place and make sure they have as many programs and activities to do as we can.”
