Oskaloosa–Another chapter has been written in the Statesmen’s men’s soccer team’s record-breaking season as the NAIA’s seventh top-25 poll was released Tuesday.
For the first time ever, WPU (11-3, 6-2 Heart) is receiving votes nationally, sitting in a tie for 34th with 13 points. The squad has already knocked off two top-25 teams and is tied for the most wins in a single campaign. The navy and gold enjoyed a seven-game winning streak earlier in the season and is currently riding a two-game streak.
The Statesmen join five other Heart of America Athletic Conference schools in the rating, including #5 Central Methodist, #7 Missouri Valley, #15 MidAmerica Nazarene, #17 Baker, and #25 Benedictine. William Penn is 2-1 against this aforementioned quintet with games against MidAmerica Nazarene and Baker yet to come.
William Carey (Miss.) is first nationally with 491 points and seven first-place votes, while Oklahoma Wesleyan is a close second with 488 points and seven first-place nods. Rio Grande (Ohio), with the final first-place vote, Hastings (Neb.), and Central Methodist round out the top five.
