Gonzalez Leads Statesmen at St. Ambrose

Bettendorf–Guadalupe Gonzalez (Sr., Houston, Texas, Exercise Science) produced a strong performance Saturday as she paced the William Penn cross country teams at the St. Ambrose Invitational.
The women placed 10th out of 13 teams with 284 points, while host St. Ambrose took the crown with 35 points. On the men’s side, WPU was 12th out of 12 teams with 373 points; Olivet Nazarene claimed the team title with 77 points.
Gonzalez finished ninth out of 126 harriers on the 5K course with a time of 20:32.6.
Michelle Reyes (Fr., Brownsville, Texas, Biology) also finished in the top 100, crossing the line in 68th at 23:33.6.
Bree’Anna Lee (So., Broken Arrow, Okla., Biology) was next in 103rd at 26:17.5, while Lauren Lehman (Jr., Norwalk, Iowa, Undecided) (120th, 29:07.7) and Rachel Surbaugh (So., Knoxville, Iowa, Biology) (126th, 31:35.4) rounded out the women’s competitors.
Cameron Shade (So., Riverdale, Ga., Sociology) headlined the Statesmen in the men’s 8K race, placing 97th out of 141 in 31:02.3. Joseph Diaz (Fr., Laredo, Texas, Wellness and Recreation) took runner-up honors on the team in 114th at 32:12.4.
David Williams (So., Victor, Iowa, Secondary Education) (128th, 34:04.5), Julian Davis (Fr., Palmer, Alaska, Mechanical Engineering) (135th, 36:06.1), and Shane Crozier (Fr., South Holland, Ill., Sports Management) (136th, 36:15.4) wrapped up the men’s scoring.
