7th Grade Indians Best The Newton Cardinals

The Oskaloosa 7th grade Football Team traveled to Newton for their first away game of the season. The Indian football team arrived with a winning attitude and immediately grabbed a 10 – 0 lead half way through the first quarter. The game started with a great kick by Ryan Jennings that got Newton backed up along their own goal. On the second play of the game the Indians scored on a safety. On the next drive, a 40 yard pass play from quarterback Jarrod Parks to wideout Aidan North set up a 7 yard TD pass from Parks to Trey Miller. Miller also added the 2-point conversion on the next play. The rest of the game was dominated by the Indian defense and special teams. Our special teams allowed us to control the field advantage. Our team defense was outstanding as our tackling has improved over the season. Newton’s lone score came on a 20 yard fumble recovery. The game was capped off by a interception by Payton Beason.

The “B” game ended with a 12 to 22 loss. The game started off really well for the Indians when Payton Beason scored on a quarterback scamper from 50 yards out. Right before half, Beason connected with Skyler Jarvis on a 15 yard TD reception. The Indian defense held the Newton Cardinals 12 to 8 until the middle of the 4th quarter when Newton took the lead late. Newton added another score with 10 seconds remaining.

The most impressive part of both game was the focus, effort, and determination of our kids. Everyone played their very best. Our next contest is October 10th against Knoxville.
