Gonzalez in Top 10 Again

Rock Island, Ill.–Guadalupe Gonzalez (Sr., Houston, Texas, Exercise Science) overcame stifling heat to place high as the William Penn cross country teams competed at the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational hosted by Augustana Friday.
The William Penn men were 22nd out of 22 teams with 621 points, while Simpson claimed the team title with 41 points.
The women were unable to field a full team, but lack of teammates did not slow down Gonzalez. The weather, with temperatures spiking well into the 90s, may have though.
The senior battled against the elements to place sixth out of 156 runners on the three-mile course in a time of 20:12. Lauren Lehman (Jr., Norwalk, Iowa, Undecided) also ran Friday, finishing 153rd in a time of 33:31.3.
Originally slated for an 8K, the heat forced the men’s race to be shortened to four miles. Cameron Shade (So., Riverdale, Ga., Sociology) led the male harriers, finishing 111th (out of 217) in a time of 24:41.1.
Joseph Diaz (Fr., Laredo, Texas, Wellness and Recreation) was next in 148th in 25:44.1, while Julian Davis (Fr., Palmer, Alaska, Mechanical Engineering) (170th, 26:39.4), David Williams (So., Victor, Iowa, Secondary Education) (196th, 28:19.1), and Shane Crozier (Fr., South Holland, Ill., Sports Management) (200th, 28:57.2) wrapped up the varsity scoring.
Percy Burton (Fr., Baltimore, Md., Sports Management), in 208th at 30:16.3, also competed Friday.
Next Up: William Penn takes off a week before traveling to Bettendorf to compete in the St. Ambrose Invitational on Saturday, October 7.
