Weather plays role in multiple crashes

4 cars slid off a Monroe Highway within a matter of minutes Friday morning, December 10.

Sonia Sancho Blanco and Austin Post were just 2 of those unfortunate drivers to encounter a slick portion of Highway 137 near 710th Ave.

Sancho Blanco’s 1996 Chevrolet was Eastbound on 137 and rounding a corner when the vehicle traveled over a portion of the roadway covered by ice cause the vehicle to slide off to the south. Sancho Blanco’s vehicle then entered the ditch striking a driveway. The impact caused the car to end up pointing North in the South ditch.

Post suffered nearly an identical situation at nearly the precise moment. His 2001 Chevrolet was also traveling Eastbound on 137 when he also came into contact with the ice on the same curve. He also slid off the roadway towards the South striking a culvert in the ditch with his vehicle coming to rest pointing East on the culvert.

Trooper Daniels responded to both accidents and reported 2 other vehicles had also been off the roadway in the same place.
