Quartet Collect Scholar-Athlete Honors

Oskaloosa–Four members of the William Penn track and field teams were honored for their excellence in the classroom as they were named 2016-2017 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes Friday.

Zack Johnson (Jr., Decatur, Ill., Mechanical Engineering), who was also honored in cross country in the fall, led the Statesmen with a 4.00 Grade Point Average entering the spring. Alexys Devlin (Jr., Davenport, Iowa, Physical Education) notched her second award (cross country last fall) with a 3.75 GPA, while Derek Robinson (Jr., Jenks, Okla., Communications) picked up his second laurel as well (football last fall) with a 3.61 GPA.

Payton Busch (Sr., Centerville, Iowa, Secondary Education), who has a 3.52 GPA, was awarded for the first time in his career.

The foursome were among 316 men’s track and field and 467 women’s track and field athletes from within the NAIA to be awarded the laurel.

To be eligible for the award, athletes must be of at least junior academic standing, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale, and have attended the nominating institution for at least one full academic year.
