Pella’s De Jong Helps No. 15 DMACC Sweep Northeast
DMACC Bears
The Bears won 25-23, 25-15, 25-16 to improve to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. Northeast fell to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Sophomore Ramsey Johnston of Chaska, Minn., led DMACC with 13 kills and 18 assists while adding 10 digs and two service aces. She finished with a .440 hitting percentage, committing just two hitting errors in 25 attacks.
De Jong joined Johnston in double figures in assists, helping direct an offense that featured four players with at least six kills.
Freshman Malia Clayburg of Coon Rapids contributed eight kills and hit .318, finishing with one error in 22 attacks. Sophomore Brooklyn Lyftogt of Van Meter added seven kills with one error in 26 attacks for a .231 hitting percentage.
Freshman Cadence Hotz of Macomb, Ill., had six kills and one error in 13 attacks, hitting .385.
After taking the opening set by two points, DMACC won the second set by 10 and the third by nine to complete the sweep.
Sophomore Indy Johnson of Clarion anchored the Bears’ defense with a team-high 30 digs. Sophomore Kyliegh Turks of Franklin, Tenn., added 12 digs, while freshman Kaylie Simons of Carroll and Johnston each finished with 10.
Hotz and freshman Sydney Blackmore of Holstein contributed two block assists apiece.
DMACC entered the match ranked 15th in the latest National Junior College Athletic Association Division II poll cited in the school’s release.
