Two Area Students Receive Outstanding Musicianship Awards

OTTUMWA — Two area students received Outstanding Musicianship Awards at the recent Indian Hills Community College JazzFest.
Jac Munson of the North Mahaska jazz band, a drummer, was judged the best musician among the Class 1A schools who competed. Alan Carmichael of the Oskaloosa Jazz Lab, on the vibraphone, won the top individual award for the schools’ 2nd bands.

The final rankings for the competition had Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont first in Class 2A, Oskaloosa second in 3A, and the Oskaloosa Jazz Lab second among the 2nd bands.

Sixteen high school jazz bands took part in the annual JazzFest.
