Mary Jane Dotson, 77, of Oskaloosa died Monday, February 13, 2017, at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born July 8, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Albert and Ida Young.

Mary attended school in Detroit Michigan. On June 7, 1957, Mary was united in marriage to Carl Henry Dotson, Sr. in LaGrande County, Indiana. Carl died March 12, 2005.

For a short time, Mary worked as a waitress at various restaurants in Michigan. She later stayed home to care for her family and home. Mary moved to Oskaloosa in 2014 to be closer to her son Mike and his family.

Mary enjoyed knitting, crocheting and crafts, she traveled to craft shows for many years and sold her various crafts. She also enjoyed playing games on her tablet. Mary always looked forward to sharing a meal and spending time with her family and friends.

Her family includes her five children: Carl Henry Dotson, Jr of Michigan, James (& Pat) Dotson of Tennessee, Rev. Michael (& Mary) Dotson of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Cathy (& Dennis) Beckner of Michigan, and Johanna (& Eric) Conrad of Pennsylvania; twelve grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Young.

In addition to her husband, Carl, Mary was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Bonnie Dotson.

As was Mary’s wish her body has been cremated.
No visitation is planned.
A memorial service will be held Friday, February 17, 2017, at 3 p.m. at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa with Reverend Michael Dotson officiating.
Burial of the urn will be at a later date in the Baggett’s Chapel Cemetery in Montgomery County, Tennessee. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Crystal Heights Activity Fund.
