Seven Place at Missouri Valley Open

Marshall, Mo.–John Altieri (So., Warwick, R.I., Sociology) and Darquell Pierre (Fr., St. Petersburg, Fla., Sociology) both advanced to the championship match at their respective weights as the William Penn wrestling team competed at the Missouri Valley Open Saturday.

The duo led a charge of seven Statesmen grapplers to place in the top six. Both individuals were 2-1 on the day, eventually falling in the finals to finish second. Altieri tallied one fall and one major decision at 125 pounds, while Pierre managed a major decision at 133 pounds as well.

Jeremy Andujar (Jr., Tampa, Fla., Biology) was one spot behind Altieri at 125 pounds, owning a 4-1 record (two falls) to take third place.

The trio of 149-pounder Kionte Crocker (Jr., Brandon, Fla., Industrial Technology), 165-pounder Austinn Goin (So., Belton, Mo., Exercise Science), and 285-pounder Max Lewis all ended the day fifth at the Open. Crocker (one fall) and Goin were 2-2, while Lewis was 3-2 with a pair of pins.

Nick Wise (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz., Exercise Science) also placed as his 2-3 mark (one fall) helped him to sixth at 184 pounds.

Tyshon Cannon (So., Lagrange, Ga., Psychology), who was 2-2 at 141 pounds, and Jeremy Walters (Sr., University Park, Ill., Exercise Science), who was also 2-2 (one fall) at 165 pounds, recorded multiple wins Saturday.

141-pounder Jermein Rivera (So., Tampa, Fla., Sociology) pinned one opponent, while fellow 141-pounders Blake Ealy (Fr., North English, Iowa, Sociology) and Fabian Rodriguez (So., Manassas, Va., Business Management) and 157-pounder Logan Loftus (Jr., Marengo, Iowa, Industrial Technology) claimed one win each as well.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Hannibal, Mo. next Thursday to face Hannibal-LaGrange in dual-meet action at 7 p.m.
