Robert Ranfeld, 82 of Deep River passed away Wednesday morning, January 18, 2017 at the Brooklyn Estates in Brooklyn. Robert Arthur Ranfeld, the son of Bert and Florence (Timm) Ranfeld, was born on November 29, 1934 at home in rural Iowa County, Iowa.

Bob graduated from Guernsey High School in 1953. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1957 and was honorably discharged in 1959.

On September 24, 1960, Bob was united in marriage to Janet Hite. To this union two children were born, Chris and Steve.

Bob was a lifelong farmer, farming near Gibson for a few years before purchasing a century farm near Deep River where they made their home in the early 1960’s. Following his father’s death, Bob purchased his family’s century farm near Guernsey.

Bob enjoyed his saw mill work that he operated from his farm home. He also enjoyed hunting and watching NASCAR. Bob was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, attending many games.

He was a past member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church near Victor where he was baptized and a current member of the Deep River Calvary Lutheran Church.

His memory will be honored by his wife, Janet Ranfeld of rural Deep River; two children, Chris (& Ron) Grier of Guernsey and Steve (& Pam) Ranfeld of Guernsey; three grandchildren: Ryan Grier, Justin Ranfeld and Maisey Ranfeld and two sisters, Wilma Johnson and LaVera Hennessey.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will begin at 3:00 pm Saturday, January 21, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Victor.
Burial will be in the St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm Friday, January 20, 2017 with the family present from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Deep River Calvary Lutheran Church or the Deep River Fire Department.
