Statesmen Receiving Votes in Bushnell Golfweek Poll

Oskaloosa–It may not be the NAIA’s official rating, but it is still a nice feather in the hat as the William Penn men’s golf team is receiving votes in this week’s Bushnell Golfweek Coaches’ Poll Friday.

In what is believed to be the first time the program has ever received votes nationally (pre or post-NAIA era), WPU is tied for 37th with two votes.

The Statesmen are one of four representatives from the Heart of America Athletic Conference with Grand View (T-8th), Mount Mercy (19th), and Missouri Valley (23rd) all inside the top 25.  Oklahoma City, Texas Wesleyan, British Columbia, Wayland Baptist (Texas), and Victoria (B.C.) comprise the nation’s top five schools.

Zachary Chegwidden (Fr., Essex, England, Business Management) is leading WPU with a 71.9 stroke average, while Frederik Lundsgaard (Jr., Jebjerg, Denmark, History/Government) is also playing extremely well at 72.8.  A total of seven Statesmen ended the fall campaign with sub-80 stroke averages.

In seven fall tournaments, William Penn finished no lower than sixth place; the team managed three wins, one runner-up placing, and two third-place finishes.
