Presidential Candidate Art Show Now Open
Oskaloosa, Iowa – In Iowa, the process of selecting the next President of the United States begins at least a year before most other places.
Freelance Photographers Dave Davidson and Monte Goodyk and photojournalists Ginger and Ken Allsup decided that the candidates could be art. FACE of Mahaska County and the Oskaloosa Art Center worked with the mall to make the show possible.
So with political burnout at its peak, the group set up their artwork just off of center court inside Penn Central Mall.
Goodyk, in his typical commentary, said the show is “much better than the real election.”
Briana Bartlett with FACE of Mahaska County said that the group hadn’t hosted a photography show yet, and to have it with four different photographers “is pretty neat, for us”.
“I’m excited that we did it,” said Bartlett, who wasn’t sure what kinds of images would be made available for the show. “It’s really neat, the variety.”
With every artist having a slightly different style, there is something for nearly everyone, as the range of creativity goes from abstract to realism.
The mixing of politics and photography “came together really nicely,” says Bartlett.
Bartlett expressed her thanks to Penn Central Mall for playing host while Oskaloosa Art Center finishes out the details of where it will next be located. The group hopes to share information about their new location around the first of the year.
You can visit the show until October 25th, when the artists will return in the evening for a show-closing event.
