Bring Old Shoes for the Old Shoe Game

Got old shoes?
The Mahaska Community Recreation Foundation (MCRF) is asking families to donate gently used youth athletic shoes and other equipment at the Old Shoe Game, Friday, August 19 at the stadium at Lacey Recreation Complex.
Have sports equipment that still has life in it? Bring your “old shoes” to the Old Shoe Game.
The Old Shoe Game is coming up 4:30 pm, Friday, August 19, at William Penn’s Stadium at the Lacey Recreation Complex. While the admission price is still a sports drink, Lacey’s Youth Fulfillment Committee is asking families to bring along their old youth athletic shoes and other sports equipment to the game as well, so they can be passed on to others.
The Old Shoe Game is the place for the 4th Annual athletic equipment exchange program called Play It Forward, aimed at recycling youth sports equipment to promote involvement.
“We will be accepting equipment at the Old Shoe Game and during normal registration events for youth recreation programs,” said Sherry Vavra, Executive Director of the Mahaska Community Recreation Foundation (MCRF). “The Old Shoe game seemed the appropriate place to bring your old shoes. MCRF makes the donated equipment available for young athletes to take and use,” she said.
Items accepted include gently used youth football cleats, jerseys, softball/baseball cleats, bats, gloves, pants, safety equipment, sliding pads, and soccer cleats, socks, league jerseys, shin guards and shorts, and track spikes.
“The program works and we continually collect and give equipement, ” said Kandis Klyn, Activities Manager for MCRF. “We hope the Play It Forward program will encourage everyone to get in the game,” she added.
