2 new temporary hires for County Snow Removal

Today’s Supervisor meeting is different than normal with it being in 2 parts. There is the normal business taken care of at the 9 am meeting this morning.

Passed was paying bills for the month.

Next on the agenda was the Conservation Board. Kirk Yeager to be appointed was the recommendation by Dave Sedivec. Rachel Weis was announced as the  Americorp Naturalist from the DNR that will be joining the team for the next year under training putting in 1700 hours for the next year. Her salary is covered by a grant for the county, and she will be on the job training with our local conservation team.

Tangible Asset GASB Statement 51 was approved by the Board of Supervisors. GASB Statement 51:
Intangible assets of State agencies and component units should be capitalized according to the following thresholds:

• $1,000,000 – Internally generated computer software (application development costs only)
• $100,000 – All other intangible assets (including purchased or licensed computer software)

Intangible assets with a cost equal to or greater than the threshold and a useful life of two or more years should be capitalized. Assets costing below the threshold should be expensed (Note: For entities with separately issued financial statements, if the application of the above thresholds would result in the financial statements being materially misstated, lower thresholds may need to be considered and established by the individual entity). When an internally generated computer project spans more than one year, the total application development costs of the project should be considered when applying the capitalization threshold, not the outlays incurred in individual years (Note: a project would include a modification to existing software).

Cost advisory services report passed.

Before the Supervisors today included bids for tuck pointing at the Courthouse.

Troy Bemis brought 2 bids on the repairs, with some differences between the bids. $135,427.00 tuckpointing was the winning bid by Karr Tuckpointing for upcoming repairs to the Courthouse this coming year. Karr’s warranty is for 2 years versus their competitors 1 year warranty.

Jerome Nusbaum, County Engineer, updated the Supervisors on the process and eventual hire of 2 temporary personnel. They had 7 applications for temporary plow drivers on an as needed basis. Those positions being awarded to Jacob Dalby and Alex West for $15.00 per hour on an as needed basis for snow removal.

Nusbaum also stated that FEMA is wanting to close out the current year claims. Some repairs of road slides are in the process.

The meeting recessed until 6:30 this evening (December 6, 2010) when it will reconvene for public input on the urban renewal and bonding proposed by Mahaska Health Partnership on their expansion project. Extra chair’s were being moved into the conference room to help seat the expected crowd for this evenings meeting.
