Topeka, Kan.–John Altieri (Fr., Warwick, R.I., Sociology) put up a good fight, but fell short of his ultimate goal as he finished 2-2 at the NAIA Wrestling National Championships Friday.

The freshman 125-pounder opened the event by dropping a 24-5 technical fall to #3 Troy Lakin of Menlo (Calif.).

He bounced back with a fall of his own in 1:36 against Sean Nguyen of Cumberland (Tenn.) before earning a forfeit victory over Olson Delisca of Southeastern (Fla.).

Unfortunately, his run ended by being pinned in 6:19 by #9 Jake Sinkovics of Cumberlands (Ky.). Altieri, who finishes his inaugural collegiate campaign with a 22-15 record, was two wins shy of being an All-American.
